Jimmy P.Brown visited my site, and gave me these comments on a message board. It's slightly edited, but the contents are the same.
First of all... Thank
you.. Thank you... and again Thank YOU!!!
I especially like your page Kmorg... VERY honest and upfront... your observation
of the latter "D" being more melancholy as opposed to melodic is
wonderful... That is EXACTLY what it was and is... And your distaste for Terry
Taylor's influence is again honest and I like that...
Terry is one of my all time musical heroes... So, it would be natural for his
influence to be there... Especially in the years of working w/ him... I look
back and see that I was mostly trying to impress my "hero" w/ my
writing abilities as opposed to making music for the masses... Sometimes, I view
this as a mistake, other times I have to say it was what I had to do at the
time... Not that I was forced, but just wanted to try something different...
That's all...
Your comments on all the different phases are great... I have to admit, your
comments on all the M8 releases had me falling on the floor laughing... Because,
I had the same thoughts, feelings and things to say EVERY time I saw one of
those releases...
Above all, thank you for your long time support... Whether or not you were
diggin what was going on, you still showed support...
I was reading an interview w/ George Ochoa... He commented that I have always
surrounded myself w/ different people all the time... And, that is my thing...
Well, George knows me and that IS my thing... Funny, George always understood
what I was trying to do on each record, and always respected the fact that I was
trying to be the "Metal" version of David Bowie. (minus the cross
dressing and bi-sexual lifestyle) lol... George being a fan of all types of
music had great respect for Bowie, and enjoyed long nights on tour w/ me
listening to a lot of Bowie and Peter Gabriel and old Genesis w/ me...
The old days of Speed Metal and what not are gone for me... I doubt they will
return... Funny, George used to laugh when going through my CD's at home... Gary
Numan, Kraftwerk, Peter Gabriel, Bowie, Daniel Amos... He used to crack up and
say
"if any of our fans saw or heard what you really listen to, they would kill
you. Why on earth do you write and play Metal?"
Funny... It used to make us laugh a lot then... And, it still does now... I
guess that is why I have changed my tune and am doing Fearful Symmetry again...
It is my forte...
But, I can't thank you enough for the support and kind words... It is ALL
appreciated...
I never understood why so many people couldn't stand it when I changed... But, I
guess it is the same reason I realy don't like the Newer Metallica... I still
only own 3 Metallica discs... Kill 'em all... Ride the Lightening and Master of
Puppets... The others I couldn't are to buy or keep... Same w/ Slayer... I still
only have... Show no Mercy, Hell Awaits, and Reign in Blood which I still to
this day consider a Masterpiece in Thrash that NO ONE has been able to touch...
Not even Slayer... SITA is great disc as well, but nothing touches RIB...
I am not hurt by anyones opinions... Just perplexed at times... But, we are not
all the same... Just like you can't stand Terry Taylor's influence on my
writing... I think Taylor is a GENIUS!!! And, will ever be grateful to him for
showing me a new direction where to go w/ my writing style...
I never thought much of Camelot in Smithereens as well as Assimilation... They
have moments, but overall not great records... W/ River, I think i achieved what
I wanted to playing Metal...
The new record that is being released has that same vibe for me as River... Not
musically speaking, but what I always wanted to do... but now w/
industrial/electronica...
Well, take care ...
