After his departure from Kiss in 1983 Ace tried to make a solo career. And of all Kiss's members' solo efforts, Ace was definitely the best, and most successful. From his first Frehley's Comet album from 1985 to his reuniting with Kiss in 1995/1996, he has released plenty of good Ace material.

OK, Ace is back with Kiss. Why don't we cash in on this, huh? A best of album with a few new live-songs. I Don't know whose idea it was, the record company's, or Ace's old band mates. I'm not sure why I keep this. I guess it's the collector in me.

Ace is back, and he told you so! He just forgot to tell you that he'd return with some of the lamest CD packaging ever though! Who other than Ace Frehley would release a special digipack foldout cover, that can be put together to form a pyramid box? I don't need origami, I want music!

Fortunately, the music should leave no Ace fan wanting. I'd bet that even the brother part of his most loyal fans didn't really believe he still had it in him, to come up with anything even remotely as good as what he has done in the past. After all, it's been over 20 years since his last solo album. Gladly, 'Anomaly' seems to be everything we hoped for, and then some. The Spaceman sounds as sloppy as ever, with his trademark dozy vocals. If that had been written about any other artist, it would have come across as an insult. But not when it comes to Ace, because that is part of the man's charm. 'Anomaly' is a slab of good ol' fun, the way rock n' roll was always intended. Whether you're listening to Ace being Ace in "Foxy & Free", "Outer Space" and the wacky half-instrumental, "Genghis Khan", or you're tuning in on a more serious side of the man, in compositions such as "A Little Below The Angels" and "Change The World", or even the cool rendition of the Sweet classic, "Fox On The Run", this is all fun and fancy free! Heck, he finally even brings the older tune, "Sister", back to life. Ace used to play it live, and I think it was record before, but never released. It used to circulated on bootlegs for years.

It was really cool that Ace Frehley managed to release his 'Anomaly' a month before his old band, Kiss, dropped their 'Sonic Boom' on us. I have to admit that I prefer the latter. Still, I have only good things to say about 'Anomaly' nonetheless.

Killer tracks: Outer Space, Pain In The Neck, Too Many Faces, A Little Below The Angles
