Bombworks Records is the label for talented death metal acts, with Christian leanings these days. Forget the metalcore bands, catering for the mainstream. you know, Shadows Fall, As I Lay Dying etc. Also forget about all the sub par Gothenburg sound clones. I'm talking about real death metal here. The kind that makes your ears bleed, and the paint on your walls strip! Common Yet Forbidden is such an act. Their brand of technical death metal, with only hints of thrash, is breathtaking. OK, so the vocals are maybe just a tad metalcore-ish. But who says that death metal is only true if a growler is at the mic? As long as the music is so great, who cares? These 4 talented guys gives us their all on this, their debut full-length album. The songs I've heard from their self released EP from 2005 had even more leanings towards a thrashier sound. But on 'The Struggle' they are almost 100% full throttle technical death metal. Expect blastbeats, incredible fast riffing and an intensity level that reminds me more of black metal than death metal. Every instrument is played by skilled artists, and together they've created a wall of sound. But in spite of all the "noise", you get a distinct feel for all the songs, simply because these guys know how to write interesting music, that doesn't get samey. Another cool thing about this album is the closing number, entitled "Riff List". And this instrumental delivers as the name promises. It's a 7 and a half minute riff frenzy! If you like bands such as Sympathy, Suffocation and Unearth, this is an album for you. 'The Struggle' is definitely one of the better death metal albums I've heard in a while! Besides, any band with a member wearing a The Absence t-shirt on the promo picture is ok in my book (lol).

Killer tracks: The Struggle, Lake Of Fire, Wake Of Souls, Face Of The Father
