DEVIL'S FOOTPRINTS (2003) INDIE (EP)

I remember downloading some clips from this bands website, and get totally blown away by their melodic death metal! I just had to buy their EP. Unfortunately the band seemed to have gone A.W.O.L., and my order never went through. But the through the magic of internet it didn't take me too long to track down a copy for sale. Canada's Excurses are one of the better Christian melodic death metal acts ever! Alongside Renascent, they are probably the only band that can even touch what their secular counterparts are doing. They are right up there with bands like The Absence, Dark Tranquility and Soilwork in my opinion. Just listen to songs like "Edom" and "Purification". Pure brilliance!! The songs are brutal. But as always in this genre, they are also spiced up with loads of catchy stuff. Just check out the Iron Maiden-esque riffs in "Aurora". These guys can play, and write memorable tunes! The vocals are totally crushing! So the only downside to this CD is that it is too short! I hope this band isn't altogether laid to rest yet, as I really have high hoped for a proper full length from these guys.
