Grand Lux started up in 1999, with Kirk Evin and B. D. Huges on guitars and vocals. Ran-Dee played the drums and Morty Black was the bassist. In 2000 Morty Black left, and Kirk Evin took over the job as bass player for a period of a year. In 2002 Zack Rament joined in as the bass-man, and Kirk was back were he belonged. The last member, Phil Goode, joined the band in 2003 as lead singer. Grand Lux play classical heavy metal, and they're influenced by bands such as Dio, Judas Priest and Kiss. The band considers itself a “live band”, and makes an effort to give the audience a great show, with lots of stage energy, and not to forget the pyro effects!

Here is Norway there are 2 ways to make a living as a musician. Number 1 is of course to hit the big time, and record a successful album. But if you don't get that far, or even if you don't have those kind of admissions, you can still make a decent living playing in a cover band, or party band. You know, bands that doesn't take themselves too seriously, but are in it for the fun of it. Usually you get to play bars and small venues, and the people are there to get drunk, and sing along to some familiar tunes. And I have to say that Grand Lux somewhat fits in this second category. OK, so they play original tunes, and not covers, but they do it with a fun glimpse in their eyes, and more then just a nod back to the 80's. Their live shows are also all about giving the audience something extra for their money. A full on pyrotechnic show is not unusual for these guys. Another thing that grabs your attention is the use of pseudonyms. Kirk Evin might not be so easy for the non-Scandinavian people do figure out, but Zack Rament and Ran-Dee should put a smile to most metalheads faces. There is one thing that sets this band apart from most other contemporary acts though, and that is the lyrics. These guys have a positive message to deliver. And if they do not take themselves all that serious, their belief in Christ as their Savior is not a laughing matter. Grand Lux offers a hope in Jesus alongside their 80's metal! This debut album is filled with sing-a-long songs. Many of them remind me of a stripped down Stryper. "Out Of Control" alone is worth the price of the CD! So join in the fun, and enjoy the blazing guitars, wailing vocals, and rock steady rhythm section. I hope these guys are here to stay, because 'Iron Will' leaves me wanting more!
