Death metal band from New Orleans, formed back in 1986. The driving force has always been the Rio De Janeiro native brothers, Francis M. and Moyses M.Howard. They disbanded in 1991, and resurfaced in 1997 as Opprobrium.

After liking what I heard of Opprobrium, I wanted to check this band out as well. But I thought it would be almost impossible to find any of their albums. I don't think 'Serpent Temptation' ever was released on CD even. Lucky for me, I soon came across this reissue, with both their albums on one CD. A good trade indeed! Incubus play a very brutal mix of death and thrash metal. It's full throttle all the way, and I LOVE IT! They somehow manage to keep it interesting, yet ultra-brutal at the same time. There is not much difference between the 2 albums, and I didn't even notice that there were 2 different singers on them. Are you a fan of early Mortification, Inversion, Corpse and Opprobrium, then Incubus is a safe buy! There isn't much more to say about this album. A must!

Killer tracks: Pretty much all of them.

A reader of my site wrote to me and pointed out some stuff for me regarding this release:

Greetings,

I stumbled upon your site from a link that was posted to your site from the Incubus page from Encyclopedia Metallum [...] . I read your page and felt compelled to write you about some inaccuracies, since "Serpent Temptation" (the original version) is one of my favorite recordings of all-time. The CD that you purchased, a 2 on 1 of both Incubus LP's is a bit of a misleading package by Nuclear Blast. The version that you have on your CD is a re-recorded version from 1996 (which was released on Radiation Records (a sub-label of Nuclear Blast) on CD), not the original recording from 1988 (which was released on Brutal Records on Vinyl and Cassette in the USA and licensed to Metal Works Records U.K. on Vinyl for Europe). The 1996 version completely removes the involvement of Scot W. Latour from that record, his bass tracks and vocals were replaced with those of Francis M. Howard, who also re-recorded his own guitar tracks to have a cleaner, less raw sound that the original guitar tracks. Also, the lyrics were changed, as well as some of the song titles, in order to be less violent.

The original version from 1988 is FAR, FAR, superior to the re-recorded version. Unfortunately, this version has never been released on CD. You can check-out low quality Real Audio tracks of the entire original version at this site: http://vibrationsofdoom.com/test/Incubus2.html [...]

Jim
