Last Chapter was originally
formed in 1989 under the title Brick Widow. The first three members were
drummer Jason Spradlin, bassist Terri Pritchard, and guitarist Darrin Davis. The
trio began to work on building their own style of Doom Metal in their home town
of Arlington, Texas. The following year they included guitarist Cody Griffith in
the band and began using their influences in every way possible to create a
distinctive form of Progressive Doom Metal with emphasis on heaviness, doomy
atmospheres, and slow tempo. All throughout this time however the band continued
searching for, but was never able to find a suitable vocalist appropriate for
the passionate and powerful nature of the songs that they had written. However
they continued to work and create music. Two years passed, and the band was
still unable to find an appropriate vocalist. They released a four song demo
with the assistance of their close friend, the front man for cult doom band
Solitude Aeturnus, Robert Lowe. However the tape was only given a limited
distribution to a particular few people and created a buzz about the band and
their music. A fair amount of time passed after that and the band was still
unsuccessful finding their own lead vocalist so they came to the conclusion that
it wasn't worth working for anymore and gave up. John Perez, the founder of
Brainticket Records, was entirely convinced of the outstanding nature of the
songwriting that the band had done that in 1995 he begged them to begin working
once again and record a full length release. It didn't take much to convince the
band that it was time to put their songwriting to good use and get into the
studio to record. At the start of 1997 Last Chapter began recording their
first full length album with the assistance Robert Lowe once again on vocals,
and Bill Pohl on synth guitar. In June of '97 Brainticket released the album
called, 'The Living Waters'.

Quality doom metal bands are hard to come buy. I'm kinda picky when it comes to this genre, and only a handful of bands have been to my liking. So a friend of mine sent me this CD, telling me that it was a great doom album. And I like what I hear. This is plain and simple doom! Slow and heavy. Their vocalist (apparently a newbie) has this cool voice, that really suits the music. There is still a long way to the greatness of Candlemass, and some of the songs on 'Paths To Always' (great title!) do get a bit boring after a while. But as a whole, this album is a good one, and it really grows on you. The lyrics are written around themes from the Revelations, and the end-times. And oh, this is Last Chapter's second album.
Killer tracks: Paths To Nowhere, A Little Slumber
Sadly this band broke up just before releasing this album. Too bad, because they really showed promise on 'Paths To Always'.
