Mass Extinction from Dublin, Ireland, formed in late September 2003. The vision was as straight forward as it was lethal, to create and harness........FACE MELTING THRASH! Drawing influences from the pure blood pioneers of the early 80s i.e. Exodus, Slayer, Kreator, Destruction, Nuclear Assault....up to the genre perfecting titans of second wave thrash like Testament, Forbidden et all. It was the caliber of such bands, and the distinct qualities they possessed lacking in the modern day metal culture, that invoked an inevitable and highly volatile solution......REVOLUTION!

Wow! It's 1985 all over!! Mass Extinction from Dublin takes me back 2 decades, and delivers some neck-breaking thrash metal. This is the bands first demo, consisting of 3 old school thrash metal nuggets. This is music for fans of Destruction, Sodom, Kreator and old Slayer. In other words, it's totally relentless and in-you-face. But don't you for one second think that these guys are all about speed, and nothing else. No, just like the bands that influenced them, these guys can also play. So despite the brutal appearance, and blistering speed, these 3 tracks also sport enough breaks, solos and variety to keep my interest up. I'm really digging all 3 songs on this demo, and I can't wait to bang my head to more of this bands music!

CREATIONS UNDOING (2007) UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT (DEMO)

2 years have passed, and Mass Extinction are back with more headbanging pleasure. 3 more songs have been recorded for this second demo. The first thing you notice is the much improved artwork. It really looks like a commercially released product. But ultimately it's the music that counts. And musically they have not altered one single thing! This is still 100% old school face melting thrash metal craziness! And Mass Extinction knows how to deliver the goods. The production is slightly improved too, and the mix makes all the instruments come out more clearly. But don't expect any Andy Sneap or Peter Tägtgren product. 'Creations Undoing' manages to sound like it was released in 1985, despite having a crisp and clear sound, just like this kind of music should. The guitars are razor-sharp, attacking your senses like a chainsaw at full speed. Tom's raspy vocals are spewed out in an angry fashion, without any metalcore screamo tendencies in sight. The rhythm section is tight as heck, with some mind numbing drum work going on. Mass Extinction have created the best thrash metal demo of 2007 with this release. And with the big thrash metal revival we have going on these days, I should think that they will have no problem getting signed to a bigger label soon. 'Creations Undoing' is a perfect product for it's genre. Thanks goes out to Kieran for turning me onto this band!
