Paul Stanley has always been the member of KISS most devoted to his main band. Being one of the founders of the band, he has always stayed clear of any side-projects outside of KISS, save for a short solo-tour back in the late 80's. But even back then he played mostly KISS tunes. So it's sort of refreshing, and with pretty much anticipation, the we now get to hear the mans first proper solo-album. Yes, I am aware of the 1978 solo-stunt KISS pulled of, but even back then Paul delivered the most KISS-sounding solo-album of all the 4 members. In 2006 I truly believe that it is an honest solo-performer we get to hear on 'Live To Win'. This is not a "Rock And Roll All Nite"-fueled hard rock album, but rather a much softer Paul Stanley. Sure, most of these tunes could easily have been revamped to fit the KISS sound, and even some of the ballads could just have easily been recorded by KISS in the late 80's/early 90's. But what else can we expect from the mastermind himself? With him on the writers bench he has also had great help from Desmond Child, known for his collaboration with just KISS, and other acts such as MeatLoaf and Bon Jovi. I personally love what Mr. Stanley have come up with. This is a catchy rock/pop album, filled with quality songs that you easily remember, and fall in love with. If you like acts such as Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams or even Michael Sweet, I am sure you will like 'Live To Win' also. Oh, and of course, if you are a fan of the Starchild, you know you will not be disappointed! Defiantly one of the best albums of 2006.
