Groundbreaking metal band from Los Angeles. Plays a riff-based, funky style of metal, similar to Galactic Cowboys.

This band got raving reviews when it was release. So I had to check it out. 'Southpaw' was released when nu-metal/alternative metal wasn't a concept yet. So this kind of music was groundbreaking. Being a die hard metal head, and fans of 80's metal (thrash, power, speed etc.), this album did not taste well at first. I couldn't see what the fuss was about at all. But after a few spins, I found some songs I did like. Today this album is considered a classic, and it's not hard to see why. Good tunes, and competent players. If you are into King's X and Galactic Cowboys, you'll love Precious Death. I hate it when people mention Metallica in the context to this band, 'cause that raises hopes. They do not sound like Metallica!!

'Southpaw' was released in 1993, but my copy says 1994, so maybe it's a reissue?

Second album by the funk-moshers. It's very similar in style to the first one, but it doesn't hold water as good as the first one. There are just not as many good tracks here, and the album gets tiresome towards the end. The songs that are good, are killer, and if you strip away 4 or 5 of the bad ones, you would have a much better album. I've almost gotten rid of my Precious Death CD's many times, because I tend to get bored with them from time to time. But then I put on "You Can't Break Me", and the CD's stay in my collection.

Some changes in the line-up, and big changes in the musical-styles. This CD turned out to be awful. I'm very glad I didn't pay more than $2 for it, brand new. Because it isn't worth a cent more! What can I say, listening to this is just "Another Form Of Slavery".
