A Sullivan County based thrash metal band, Python formed in 2001 by brothers Joe and Kurt. The first two years were spent developing material and perfecting their sound. By 2003 they were ready to hire bass player, Ken Decker. And by 2004 they began debuting their new material in various venues across New York State. In March of 2005, lead guitarist, Geoff Allen, was added to the band.

Python were a thrash band recommended to me by Scott, the owner of the No Life 'Til Metal website. He knows I'm always on the lookout for some new thrash metal. And since Python also lyrically dabble into some Christian themes here and there, he thought that this would be to my liking. And of course, he was right. Now, this is not a Christian band per se, but not unlike what Trouble used to do, these guys also paints a picture of good vs. evil, with the good as the favorable side. 'Good & Evil' is a 6 track demo, but with such a professional look and production, it might just as well serve as an independently released EP. All of the songs are good, mid-paced thrash metal monsters. They definitely have that American vibe, not unlike Slayer, Testament and Exodus. Python are not in the same league with these bands, of course, but they still have that little something to make it interesting. I find the material to be a tad samey, but the songs here I like, I really do like!

When I ordered the bands 'Good & Evil' release through CDBaby, they also sent me this 3 track demo, recorded a year later than the debut. This is only a CDR, and it doesn't even have a cover or anything (the one above is from their MySpace page. Thanks to spectrefate for helping me!) They did however include a sticker and a guitar-pick. Musically the band ventures further with their thrash metal. The overall feel is of a darker sound, and an angrier style altogether. Adding a second guitarist has made the sound thicker. I do suspect that they have tuned the guitars a little lower this time around, creating a more modern guitar sound. The song "Vengeance" starts out all slow and somber, only to blow in your face halfway through. The 2 other tracks are full-blown thrash metal attacks from start to end. I think my favorite here is "Lost Thoughts". Unfortunately it seems that the band has now spilt up.
