S H O U T

American white metal. Playing what is referred to as pop-metal or hair-metal, their hay-days were in the mid- to late 80's, but the band also recently released a reunion album. Their vocalist, Ken Tamplin, went on to pursue a solo career.

I was heavily into the white metal scene back in the mid-80's. And Shout were one of the bands I discovered back then. Somehow I lost interest in the band after a while, so I only kept my vinyl version of this album. Now I've finally been able to replace it with a CD. Shout play melodic metal, pop-metal, hair-metal, hardrock or AOR, whatever you prefer to call it. Ken Tamplin should be known to most, so you know the vocals are covered by a great voice. And he also plays the guitars, together with Chuck King. These guys have also written all of the songs. The sound is typical mid- to late 80's hair metal, complete with the sweetest of ballads, and tougher rockers. Shout do what they do well, and I've always enjoyed this disc.

Remember when metal was about high hair and blistering guitar-solos? That's when Shout operated in the scene. Their second, and for many years last, album is heavier than their debut. Still they maintain the melody in the songs. Again we're treated to Ken's excellent voice, and Chuck's tasteful guitar-work. And in true fashion, the title-track is filled with celebrity guitar-solo guests. Not much more to say, other than that 'In Your Face' is as good as its predecessor, and yet another fine melodic metal album for my collection. Both of Shout's first 2 albums are now out of print, and pretty hard to come by.
