Soldier were one of many white metal bands that didn't get that far. Formed in 1985, they released their first album a year later. Only 1 more demo followed before the band spilt up. Members can also be found in Regime and Walk The Sky.

I thought I was pretty well informed on what was going on in the white metal scene during the 80's and early 90's. If I didn't own their albums, I certainly knew the names of the bands. But Soldier somehow escaped me. Maybe due to the fact that they never caught a record deal, and their only full-length release was their 1986 independent cassette, named 'Babylon'. But in 2002, M8 records reissued all the bands material, including the 2 songs from the 'California' Metal 2' compilation, on this CD. As usual with this company, the packaging is hideous. But at least we get to hear the music! Soldier sounded very similar to Dokken, both musically and vocal wise. I'm sure you could have fooled me into believing that "A Deadly Weapon" was a long lost track by them. The songs are super catchy, just like real 80's metal should be. The production is what you might expect from an independent Christian metal release from the mid-80's. But if you can overlook this, you'll find some splendid melodic metal here to enjoy. Rick Hunter is a stellar shredder. He later formed Regime. If you're a fan of Stryper, Eden, Mad Max or Dokken, than this is for you.
