The band was founded by Steve Steel and Dennis Vestman in Sala, Sweden in Sept. 1997. In the beginning they had some problems finding the right line-up. For this reason, Steve passed the drumsticks on to Andreas de Vera, and became the bands vocalist. He gives the band character with his staccato-like voice. Their first demo tape 'Mighty Sword Of Steel' was recorded in May 1998 and presented to various labels. They got signed to AFM records in Germany, releasing 2 album, before moving on to the Spanish label Arise.

I got to see this band live, even before they had an album out. They opened for Phoenix Rizing and Edguy in Oslo, and they managed to impress me enough to look forward to their debut. And I'm pleased to say that I was not let down. 'Where Mankind Fails' is a great heavy metal album, in the power metal/true metal genre. I don't know what they put in the water over in Sweden, but it seems like there is a new killer metal band spawning from behind every corner of that country. If you like melodic guitar and thunderous drums, look no further. Steel Attack can mess with the best of them. The only thing that might not be to everyone's liking, is the vocals. It never bothered me, but I can see how some people might not appreciate him.

When a band releases such a great debut-album as these guys did, the next one is bound to get high expectations. Steel Attack have no problem living up to them! 'Fall Into Madness' is just as good as it's predecessor, and if you play them back to back, you might not even notice where the first one ends, and the next one begins. Imagine a heavier Hammerfall, and you might get the idea. Lots of killer riffs, and great harmonic choruses. I can't understand why this band haven't made it as big as most of their contemporary Swedish bands. Any metalhead who doesn't like this band, must have a severe hearing disorder. The whiplash factor kicks in from first note! \m/

For some reason I never picked this album up as a new release. I'm a huge fan of both their other releases, but this one escaped me, probably due to financial reasons. And the fact that they had changed singers might also have had something to do with me not prioritizing buying it. Steve Steel might not be the best vocalist around, but he certainly gave the band charm! And that is not easily replaced. Luckily Steel Attack brings in another good singer. He doesn't at all sound like Steel. He has a more high pitched vibrato sound, which fits the music very well. I must say that the uniqueness of the band is somewhat gone. But when they deliver such great metal songs as present on 'Predators Of The Empire', then I'm not one to complain too much. Any fan of the galloping heavy power metal should check this album out. Steel Attack also have this epic feel to their songs, mostly due to their lyrical approach. John's and Dennis' guitar work is also very enjoyable. They do not need to be overly technical, that is not what this band is about. But they do deliver crunchy riffs and wonderful melodic passages that stays way within the legacy of their 80's metal heroes. I cannot see why any fan of Iron Maiden, Hammerfall, Running Wild etc. should not like what Steel Attack have to offer.
I got this CD for free if I reviewed it for another website. I guess this is some sort of promo version, as only the booklet came with the actual CD. So if anyone have the back insert/trey card they could scan for me, that would be awesome! Please email me.
