Steeler hailed out of Wattenscheid, Germany in 1981. Just before the release of their debut album, they were made aware of another band called Steeler. That band were located in the US, and featured, amongst others, Yngwie Malmsteen and Ron Keel. But since they also heard that the US version were now laid to rest, they decided to keep the name. Both bands played guitar-drive hard rock, and both bands had what was to become guitar legends. Germany's Steeler included one Axel Rudi Pell, later to form his own band, under his own name.

I'm a huge Axel Rudi Pell fan, but haven't paid much attention to what he did prior to his solo career. So when this album appeared on an auction site I frequent, I decided to give it a shot. But so did plenty of other people as well. Steeler albums are quite rare these days, so I ended up paying the prize of a new CD for it. Well, I think it was worth it. This was the bands last album. If you like melodic heavy metal/hard rock, you will love 'Undercover Animal'. There are plenty of hooks here. The songwriting and the guitar parts are outstanding. Peter's vocals are raw and effective. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. Sadly there aren't many bands around playing this kind of music anymore. In the 80's we had Dokken, Def Leppard, Great White etc. And Steeler easily ranks along those more familiar names!
