Melodic death metal bands are a dime a dozen these days. But every now and then you find a band that deserve more recognition than they seem to have gained. The Absence is such a band for me. Yes, musically they are the blueprint for the Gothenburg sound. So there is nothing new under the sun here. Imagine a cross between Soilwork and Arch Enemy, and you have their sound pinned down. But that doesn't matter to me, as long as I like the tunes they are cranking. I just love the thrash laden death metal, with the shrieking vocals and blazing guitar-harmony onslaught. 'From Your Grave' is The Absence debut full-length album, released on Metal Blade Records. It features 10 tracks (11 if you have the Japanese version), whereas the last 3 stems from the bands independently released self titled EP. The rest of the songs were co-produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, ex-Morbid Angel), who have also done work with Royal Anguish. What more can you ask for? Do yourself a favor, and check out 'From Your Grave'.
