THE SOULS UNREST
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, USA, The Souls Unrest hit the scene back in 2001. The band dovetails progressive metal, complete with non-traditional time signatures and technical musicianship, with the brutality and blast beats of thrash and death metal, delivering a wall of sound. In 2006 they signed to Bombworks Records, and released their first 2 demos on 1 full-length CD.

The Souls Unrest mixes the brutality of death and thrash metal with progressive elements like time signatures and technical musicianship. They go at it in a furious pace. While the blast beats and growling vocals create a wall of noise, the guitar sound is that of a more classic thrash variety. The songs are filled with heavy riffing, but the progressive tendencies does not allow any single riff to be over played. This can easily be described as extreme, but I would not call it original. I also, for whatever reason, get a metalcore vibe that I could have done without. This CD includes the bands first 2 demo-recordings, but here they appear remastered. And it is the last demo that stands out as the best material. "A Deadly Poison" and "Though I Fall" are both great tracks. The Souls Unrest sounds something close to bands such as Mastodon and newer Living Sacrifice. The album is OK, but the band still isn't quite up there yet.
